A cordial affair…

May 29, 2016

A few weeks ago Lucy from The Adbication Micropub kindly invited me to run an edible flower workshop with her, making elderflower cordial and champagne and edible flower lollipops. Of course I jumped at the chance!

The workshop booked up pretty quickly so I was really pleased to find that people were interested in using flowers in food and drinks.

Shredding the elderflowers for our edible flower workshop

We got lucky with the weather and started our fun day foraging for elderflowers in the sunshine.

Preparing citrus for the elderflower drinks

With about 60 flower heads collected we headed back to the pub where Lucy guided everyone on how prepare and combine the ingredients to make both the cordial and the champagne. The room smelled amazing with the chopped oranges, lemon zest and sugar scent in the air!

Edible flower lollipops waiting to set

Once the drinks were ready to steep and ferment, everyone moved onto making their lollipops. The group were really creative with their flower combinations and colours and we had a range of really pretty lollipops waiting to cool and set.

Elderflower cocktails with edible flowers

We finished off the workshop with elderflower cocktails and snacks kindly made by Lucy, which we of course decorated with more edible flowers. Chin chin!

Everyone took away with them their lollipops and recipe sheet and will be able to collect their elderflower drinks when they’re ready in a couple of weeks.
